Embracing New Horizons: How DuckWorks Mastered Cabinet Vision

At DuckWorks, we pride ourselves on delivering precision and quality without compromise. When we decided to expand our capabilities and offer Cabinet Vision as part of our drafting services, it marked the beginning of an exciting chapter in our journey.

Bringing Cabinet Vision into the fold was no small task. The software, designed to streamline and optimize drafting for millwork, presented a learning curve that our team eagerly embraced. Guided by experienced mentors and a culture of collaboration, we started small, taking on simpler projects that allowed us to familiarize ourselves with the platform and its capabilities. These early steps provided the foundation for what would become a robust and adaptable workflow.

Turning Challenges Into Growth Opportunities
Like any journey worth taking, ours was not without its challenges. One of the first hurdles we faced was managing compatibility across multiple versions of Cabinet Vision. While we began with the latest 2024 version, our clients’ diverse needs required us to work with older versions, including 2023 and 2022. This meant equipping our team with multiple installations and finding efficient ways to navigate these differences. Partnering with Hexagon, we worked through technical challenges, held insightful discussions, and gained a deeper understanding of how to maximize the software’s potential.

As project demands grew, so did our team. Starting with three dedicated drafters, we expanded to five as more opportunities came our way. This growth enabled us to handle a higher volume of work while maintaining the high standards DuckWorks is known for.

The Game-Changer: BAYSIDE
Our first large-scale project, BAYSIDE, was a defining moment. The scope of the project required an innovative approach. Cabinet Vision’s limitation with multi-user collaboration challenged us to think creatively. We developed a process to export rooms and 2D drawings separately, enabling multiple drafters to work on different aspects of the project simultaneously. This workaround wasn’t simple, it required meticulous planning and execution; but it demonstrated the ingenuity and resilience of our team.

Custom Creations and Client-Centric Solutions
Today, we’ve grown into a team that thrives on delivering custom, intricate projects. From designing unique furniture pieces like custom desks to seamlessly integrating Cabinet Vision with AutoCAD when needed, our expertise continues to evolve. Our drafters aren’t just skilled technicians; they’re problem-solvers who understand the complexities of millwork drafting.

What began as a focus on project-based work has now evolved into ongoing client relationships. Securing our first full-time client is a testament to the trust we’ve built and the results we deliver. It’s a milestone that highlights not only our technical proficiency but also our commitment to helping clients achieve their goals.

Looking Ahead
Every challenge along this journey has been a chance to grow. From mastering new software to building innovative workflows, we’ve embraced each step with determination and creativity. The addition of Cabinet Vision to our services is a reflection of who we are at DuckWorks, a team dedicated to pushing boundaries, solving problems, and delivering exceptional results.

As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue this journey, leveraging our expertise in Cabinet Vision to support our clients’ success. This is just the beginning, and we’re ready to keep drafting without limits.
